Spring is here…thank God. What a dramatic change! It is wonderful to look outside and finally see flowers (why didn't anyone tell me they croak so quickly, though?) and hear the birds chirping—sure it took a ton of rain, which knocked our gutter clear off the back of our house, but it was worth it for a day like today. FEAR OF DRIVING just hit the stores; it is always a thrill to see the books in-store for the first time. I signed a few over at R.J. Julia in Madison , CT , at Just Books in Old Greenwich, CT, and at Borders in Meriden , CT if you are nearby and after a signed copy. I was happy to receive positive critiques and feedback of the book, and I am anxious to begin my public appearances and hear about other people's experiences with driving phobias (my own sparked the initial idea nugget for the book's plot). Apparently, this is a very popular thing. I certainly have enormous respect for anyone who has even attempted to overcome it. I was blown away, during writing, with the parallels between driving and life in general—so many hazards to watch out for, so many signs, so many ways to turn.

In October, my first young adult novel, ONE TRICK PONY, comes out in hardcover. Dubbed a “ Chocolat for teens,” it is a rich, intimate tale of four exceptional teens about to get a little help finding their way—is it the coffee making them so bold…or is it something more than that? Something magical? It's something us ladies will be stealing from the YA shelf, for sure. Look out for a YA website linked to daniellabrodsky.com soon, with lots more info on my teen title.

I recently joined Romance Writers of America and my local chapter CORW is fantastic. I highly recommend the group to any aspiring and working writers out there.

On other news, a mass market paperback edition of the anthology, NEVER ON A SUNDAE, in which my novella, THE WAITRESS, appears, will be in-store this summer. It has a hot new cover, too. I've been thrilled about all the attention that waitresses are getting as story heroines via the movie “Waitress,” which has just come out featuring the actress I will always hold dear as Felicity. Here are some of my thoughts on the richness of possibility with a waitress as a heroine: a waitress sees all kinds of things; she's the very person to recognize the wonder of the ordinary types of occurrences because she is always witness to these. When I waited tables, I was always impressed by the rather lovely timing involved when you get the thing right: picking up on the personality of the diner, how long they would like to linger over appetizers, when to ask what else they would like; I took pride in getting rather good at that, in being able to read people. The thing about Kate Lieve, the lonely waitress-heroine of my story, is that she admits she's waiting tables to meet men. Dining at a restaurant in Murray Hill the other day, I saw it was very obvious that a lot of the girls, swaggering around fiddling with their pens and order pads, were in pursuit of the same kind of thing. When I wrote Kate, I thought about how refreshing it would be if someone was honest about their loneliness and their pursuit of dissolving it, and that's how THE WAITRESS was conceived.

Change, change, change. The summer's over and I am now a married woman and a homeowner. Who would have ever thought? It's been a whirlwind, but things are calming down now and I am hard at work finishing up my next novel, FEAR OF DRIVING, and my teen title, THE ONE TRICK PONY. I am very excited about both. I'm re-decorating my office and I've chosen lots of tropical prints so I can will myself back to my Hawaiian honeymoon anytime I feel like it (by doing that and eating too many chocolate covered macadamia nuts). I'm also working on a new women's fiction proposal, which I hope to sell this fall (lots of heart-racing, steamy scenes, and an observation of the ways in which couples seem to obscenely misunderstand each others needs). I'm looking forward to autumn in my first house—pumpkins, turkeys, maize…enjoy and I'll check in again soon.

Just put our Christmas tree up and it looks pretty good, though there is agreement on the fact that last year's was way, way better…and bigger. What can you do? The NYC event at Coliseum Books was amazing—so great to see all the new and familiar faces and to get to know such a great store. PRINCESS OF PARK AVENUE was reviewed in the NY Post yesterday and I am thrilled. I can't believe how much it snows out here, but it really looks beautiful. I've been working like crazy on VELVET ROPE DIARIES, which comes out in June…more news on that soon. We've been trying to plan the wedding and I'm having fun trying on tiaras—who knew they could be so great? I never pictured myself as the tiara type, but I have been swayed over to the other side :) I wish you all the most fabulous holiday season and a wonderful new year! I'll be back soon—hopefully with a DJ and photographer ready to go…

Make sure to check the events page. There are great events coming up in CT and NYC. I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Is it me, or does that warm weather feel light years away already? I did a lot of fun things—some beach time, barbecues, a couple of nights at a bed and breakfast in Maine. And most exciting…I got engaged. It was a great surprise and very romantic—he asked right in Central Park! So, now we are knee deep in wedding plans, which is by turns very fun and very frustrating. Trying on wedding dresses is one of the most fantastic ways to waste an afternoon. You zip yourself in one and you feel like the most glamorous girl in the world. Truly.

My next novel, Princess of Park Avenue, comes out in a month and I can't wait. Please let me know your thoughts! I'd love to hear from you!

I've been working on a couple of upcoming novels: VELVET ROPE DIARIES currently, and I recently handed in the first draft of my winter 2006 book, FEAR OF DRIVING, which is the story of Ruby Reynolds, who leaves the city for the country, learns to drive, and in the process gains the emotional freedom to leave behind her baggage for a bright future.

You can see some new articles of mine in the following magazines: for American Baby , I wrote a winter beauty story for the January issue. For Luxe , January issue, I wrote a profile of a genius blown glass artist, Jared Davis. And for All You (one of my favorite new magazines), I wrote a relationship piece called, “Demystify Romance Myths and Strengthen your Love” for their March issue.

Just had a fabulous reading at the Wantagh Public Library in Long Island, NY. Thanks so much to everyone who came and for all the great questions that were asked. On another note, my newest book is coming out in October. It's called Never On a Sundae, and it's a compilation of three authors' short fiction (that's me and two wonderful writers: Wendy Markham and Lynn Messina). Check it out on www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com.

The book has been out for a couple of weeks now and wow! What a thrill to see it there on the New Fiction and Urban Fiction tables right when you walk in to the bookstores! I am very excited planning all the details of my very first author appearance on April 29th. Great news: we'll be offering yummy Krispy Kreme donuts and there will be fab gift bags for the first 100 people to come up and get a book signed. Look for lots of fashion and beauty giveaways to get that New York City look featured in Diary of a Working Girl. Plus, I'll be raffling off some fun items, too, like a solid silver nameplate by Jules Kim, that features a fun tag phrase from Diary of a Working Girl! You can check out her website at www.julesnyc.com.
